What garrison fencing is
Garrison fencing is a tubular steel panel fence. Vertical rails run through two or three horizontal rails and finish in a pressed spear top above the fence line. It gives you a proper security barrier that still looks neat and deliberate, which is why you see it around schools, community buildings, commercial frontages and homes that want more than a garden fence.
It sits between chainwire and palisade. Not as industrial-looking as palisade, a lot stronger and more secure than a standard tubular garden panel. We already build press-formed spear-top steelwork, so garrison panels are a natural part of what our workshop turns out.
How it is built
- Vertical pales round or square tube, spaced closely enough to prevent climbing and to meet the gap limits a site or a certifier asks for.
- Horizontal rails two rails for standard heights, three for taller runs so the panel stays rigid.
- Spear tops the pressed points above the top rail that make climbing over unpleasant. Height and spike style can be dialled up or down for the setting; a school frontage and an industrial yard want different things.
- Posts steel posts set in concrete, sized to the panel height and the exposure of the site.
Because we fabricate in our own Toronto workshop, we can match panel height, pale spacing and post spacing to the actual job rather than working around stock sizes. We also build matching gates, both swinging and sliding, so the whole run reads as one fence.
Where garrison fencing fits
- Schools and community facilities secure, tidy, and easy to see through for passive surveillance.
- Commercial frontages a fence that says the place is looked after without looking like a compound.
- Homes wanting security with looks a stronger, longer-lasting option than a light decorative panel.
- Boundaries next to public areas the spear top deters climbing while the open pales keep sightlines.
If your priority is raw anti-climb, anti-cut security on an industrial boundary, palisade is usually the better call and we will tell you so. Garrison is the choice when appearance matters alongside security.
Finishes
All steel is hot-dip galvanised for long outdoor life. Most garrison fencing is then powder-coated, with black the common pick, for a clean finish that holds its colour. Galvanised-only is available where a yard or depot does not need the colour.
